Anyone got an old client for the game lying around? Perhaps someone could reverse engineer it to create (or attempt to create) a server emulator and revive the game?
Not like anyone is doing anything with the rights to the game anyway...
Just Updated
According to an intriguing image I came across, it looks like the world of Xen Online was set to expand to the north. Arcana would appear to be the first of many other continents on Xen.
I'm not sure how to address monster images on the wiki. I think it would be better if we could get animated GIFs of each monster so they'll be better to recognize from their movement over cropped screenshots of them in-game. However, it doesn't seem like anyone has produced a monster database that utilizes animated GIFs. Should we stick with static screenshot images or wait until animated GIFs pop up?
- Locations
Obviously there's a ton of location pages we still need to add to the wiki.
According to this most recent world map, there should be 126 location pages in total. So far, we only have 72 location pages on the wiki. If anyone has any information on the missing maps, please feel free to add the corresponding pages for them.
- Monsters
I'm currently working on standardizing the monster pages. At this time, we're going with PNG file format for the images. If we come across a source of animated monster images, we can convert them to animated PNGs to easily replace the static PNGs with them.
- Items
The item pages have been standardized, so those categories are ready for new pages to be added.
- NPCs
Will be working on NPC standardization after monsters are done.
- Occupations
Slowly trying to collect information on occupations. The pages have all been standardized, so they just need to be fluffed up with information and images.
The Guild Archives Project seeks to document guilds on official servers and their origins.
Please note these distinct rules when submitting a guild to the archives and fleshing out the information of other guilds:
- Only guilds that were actually made in-game can qualify to be in the archives. Fake guilds that were never formed are not to be added. Guilds with obscene and offensive names are not to be added as well, since that violates the terms of service.
- Make sure guild names that have special characters include those special characters in their entry. Plenty of guildleaders want the same words for their guild so special characters must be included in order to distinguish guilds with the same name. Please make use of the nowiki script to preserve special characters.
- Guilds formed for the purpose of expanding guildmember slots are to be listed under the same entry. Their corresponding guild emblems should also be in the same entry as well.
- Extraneous guilds formed later for different purposes should be listed under different guild entries. An example of this is a PVM guild which later forms another sister guild for PVP purposes, even though both guilds are run by the same guildleaders.
- Each guild can only have one year, one month, and one day for their foundation date. Unless a guild was disbanded and refounded every year, guilds should only have ONE foundation date documented in their entries.
If you have any other questions or concerns, please post right here in this thread.
Just implemented a custom cursor for the wiki based on the cursors in Xen Online. I wasn't able to find a click version of the hover cursor so we're stuck with the default cursor and the hover cursor only. If anyone knows where I can find an HD version of the click cursor, I'll be more than happy to implement it on the wiki.
While digging into Xen Online's past, I came across some interesting images that I presume to be from the game's alpha and beta tests. Quite obvious they took much inspiration from Ragnarok Online's UI design, but at least they were consistent with their UI unlike RO.
Also of note, it looks like they initially made character creation gender-bound like RO did, but they changed it early on to allow players to make both male and female characters on the same account. Good on you, DNC. Took GRAVITY 13 years to do the same for RO.
In addition, I also found these cute old emotes. They look very primitive indeed. Since I never got a chance to play Xen Online, I can't distinguish any differences to the later emotes for the game.
Gamigo Group, which absorbed OUTSPARK about 3 years ago, is going to merge with Aeria Games.
Although this would mean a bigger game library for the resulting merged company, would it improve the reputation that either one has in the gaming community?
During NightAccio and my research into the mysteries surrounding Secret of the Solstice's shut down, we not only discovered that it was renamed from its original Xen Online title, but many changes were made to the North America version of the game from the original Korea source.
- The original 6 linear job progressions were modified to give Neophyte and Acolyte classes branching job trees. In the process, Predictor was removed from the game and the Archer job progression was localized substantially.
- Many of the occupations were renamed from the original names (i.e. Rogue became Neophyte, etc.), causing confusion for players coming to Secret of the Solstice from other Xen Online servers.
- Many of the occupation skills were renamed from the originals.
We're still not quite sure why the North America server of Xen Online was modified to this extent. The only theory we could come up with was to compete with Ragnarok Online in the west, as there's no trademark holder of the Xen Online name in North America. As OUTSPARK was a private company when it was alive, there are no SEC reports for us to look through to find the answer. It seems the only way for any of us to know why these changes were made is to find a former employee of OUTSPARK.
Other than that, if anyone can help us identify any other Secret of the Solstice customizations from the Xen Online original, please post here.
Welcome players of Xen Online, Xenepic Online, Xen Legend, and Secret of the Solstice!
I am ZeroTigress, now secondary admin of the Xen Online Wiki. NightAccio is the new primary admin of the Xen Online Wiki, having adopted it after the original founder disappeared. We have since merged the also inactive Secret of the Solstice Wiki into the Xen Online Wiki as both wikis addressed the same game and therefore it was more prudent to have everyone work together on a singular wiki.
Although Xen Online is long gone, NightAccio and I still wished to create a home for those who miss playing the game (as its various aliases). There is still a lot of work to be done to standardize all the articles here, and convert images to high quality PNG and JPG files. Please pardon our dust and help out if you can so we can make the Xen Online Wiki the best it can be.
